Construction

Work begins on 95 alternate route

BULLHEAD CITY - Construction work on an alternate route through Mohave Valley and Fort Mojave will began on Aug. 28.

“Highway 95 has been the only route from the lower Mohave Valley to Bullhead City for many years,” Mohave County Supervisor Tom Sockwell, Dist. 2, said. “We've had improvements, but we've also had a tremendous growth in population. In the past, we have had to endure long waits when accidents or other emergency situations blocked the highway. With what's going on in the world today and our ever-increasing number of motorists, an alternate route is needed now more than ever. I'm happy to say that construction will begin on that alternate route on August 28. This has been a long, involved process. It took us three years to get to this point with a lot of people working very hard to get through the red tape and get to where we are actually paving.”

Mohave County has put $700,000 in Highway User Revenue Funds (HURF), derived from gas taxes and license fees, to pave Vanderslice Road from Courtwright Road to Laguna Road, Sockwell said.

“We worked not only with the County Public Works on this, but with the Mohave County Transportation Committee and the Fort Mojave Tribe,” Sockwell said. “First we had to convince the committee that this was a priority. I appreciate the hard work of the Transportation Committee and Chairman Jim Roberts on getting this project approved.

“We plan to eventually pave all the way to the Bullhead City limits at Sterling Road,” Sockwell said.
