KINGMAN - Mohave County supervisors Feb. 20, endorsed the next phase of a low-income housing project off Highway 68.

The board's approval supports the developer's request to apply for federal tax credits as well as supports the county's efforts to provide affordable housing to its residents.

David Adams of Adams Construction and Management Co. of Utah is applying to the Arizona Department of Housing for $900,000 in federal low-income housing tax credits for the phase II project.

Phase II of the proposed Katherine Heights Townhomes would include 54 additional rental units that consists of three-bedroom, two-bath and two-car garage units designed for families.

Adams is constructing the project's first phase called Katherine Heights Villas, which consist of 56, two-bedroom, one-bath duplexes with a one-car garage designed for residents 55 years old and older on Katherine Mine Road just off Highway 68.

Also under construction is 54 rental units consisting of three-bedroom, two-bath and two-car garage units designed for families and also called Katherine Heights Townhomes.

The first residents are expected to move in by April.

In 2005, the supervisors approved Adams' application of the first phase of Katherine Heights Villas and Katherine Heights Townhomes for low-income housing tax credits.

The county planning and zoning department is reviewing the site plans and the zoning allows for the development of the townhomes.

Parking spaces will be available for guests of each duplex. The complex will also have a clubhouse for entertainment as well as a swimming pool.

Incomes for residents of the duplexes cannot exceed 50 percent of the Bullhead City's area median annual income of about $54,000.

The duplexes are designed for low-income families that make about $27,000 or less, Adams said.
