Kohl's coming to Bullhead

News West

BULLHEAD CITY - Company officials are not yet ready to make the announcement and Mohave Crossroads developer Josh Utterback can't officially confirm it either, but that doesn't prevent him from talking about Kohl's in the same breath as Target, which has confirmed it's coming to town.

“It's common knowledge and Kohl's has come on board ... and is going to be ‘major two' on Phase I,” he said, meaning the second major retailer besides Target in the initial phase of the shopping center. Bullhead City Development Services Director Janice Paul confirmed Kohl's has applied for building permits.

Utterback, Bullhead City Manager Tim Ernster and Paul appeared at the monthly meeting March 22, with residential neighbors of the new shopping center, to be built along Highway 95 at the southern end of the Bullhead Parkway.

The Parkway will be extended to provide access to the northern end of the shopping center, with Mohave Crossroads splitting the expense of the extension with Clearwater Shores, a new 700-home subdivision just north of Mohave Crossroads.

Expect to see more activity at the shopping center site starting this month when the contractor starts installing utilities. Buildings should start going up in early June, according to Utterback.

Again, not being able to be more specific, he said serious discussions have occurred and perhaps even final deals have been struck with a pet store, office supply concern, electronics retailer, apparel stores and restaurants. Some may be “spilling into Phase II” of the project which, at this point, is “two years out,” Utterback said, but that time line could be moved up.

Target will be the first store to open next March, and will be likely joined by others around the same time, including Kohl's.

Utterback delivered some good news to his neighbors - that many of them will be taken out of the flood plain due to drainage improvements he's required to make when he builds the shopping center.
