Special to the River Cities Business Journal
In an attempt to help pave the way for more students to enter college, Mohave Community College joins the sponsoring State of Arizona in holding local College Goal Sunday events around Mohave County, showcasing the ease with which financial aid, loans and grants are available.
The Kingman and Bullhead City campuses of MCC will host College Goal Sunday events on their campuses on Feb. 11, and the Lake Havasu City campus of MCC will take part in the Lake Havasu City event being held at Lake Havasu High School, also on Feb. 11. The event runs 2 to 4 p.m. in Building 108 in Kingman, Building 200 in Bullhead City and at the high school in Lake Havasu City.
The event is sponsored by the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education (ACPE) as a free event for college-bound high school seniors and their parents as well as returning adult students to gain advice from college financial aid advisors. Information is available on filling out the federal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, and that form applies to any community college, four-year college or university.
Advisors will also be on hand at the sites to assist the student or their parents with filling out the FAFSA form.
For more information, interested persons can call the College Goal Sunday hotline in Phoenix at (877)-997-8300 or the Financial Aid office on the nearest MCC campus: in Kingman call 757-0855; in Bullhead City call 758-8407 and in Lake Havasu City call 505-3390.
Classes available with new type
of plumbing piping
Keith Hubbard, a representative of Wirsbo, recently certified several Mohave Community College students in Lake Havasu City in the use of the company's new flexible plastic PEX tubing, which replaces the long-held practice of using rigid copper pipe.
Hughes Supply, which sells plumbing supplies to area businesses, was recently bought by Home Depot and renamed HD Supply. Through HD Supply, Wirsbo sells Aquapex, which has been tried and tested for 30 years with proven performance and which some local builders are now utilizing.
Only certified plumbers and subcontractors can even buy the tubing. In addition, Wirsbo has donated three sets of tools, valued at nearly $600 each, to Mohave Community College for use in its Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Program. |
