College to improve financial aid services

The Mohave Community College Board of Governors heard a report from Bill Osborn, the college's director of financial aid, about an agreement signed with Higher One Financial Services at its March meeting. It will make it easier for students to receive their federal financial aid each semester, and there is no cost to the college or the student for the service.
“Higher One, which provides financial-aid disbursement services for more than 180 colleges nationwide, will issue a choice of a check or debit card to each MCC student entitled to financial aid,” said Dr. Lynn Cundiff, vice chancellor for administration at MCC. “Students will get their money sooner and the process will save the college the time and expense of writing and issuing checks for thousands of students.”
The Board directed the administration to proceed with negotiations with the Kingman Unified School District and the Colorado River Unified High School District, which could lead to construction of a high school on the Neal Campus, in Kingman and the Henry Campus, in Bullhead City.
“MCC is fortunate to have adequate room to assist the public school districts with this need and create a winning situation for the students, communities and institutions,” said Chancellor Michael Kearns. “The more familiar high school students are with the community college, the more likely they are to become college students. “
